Ikora seems to be in a contemplative mood. "Much ink has been spilled about the Tenets. Can't devotion be blind, and bravery foolish? Why must we sacrifice? And why speak of death at all?"
She shakes her head slightly. "But they are not virtues, or aspirations. They are a reminder of why we are here. In the early days of the Dark Ages, there were tales of Lightbearers who turned away from the battle altogether. They reasoned that the problems of humanity did not concern them. They would endure regardless, so there was no need to form attachments to this transient world."
Then she turns to you, the corners of her mouth curving up. "So, what makes us different? It must be our devotion to others. Our compassion, justice, and love. I think the Guardians who first gave voice to the Tenets must have come to the same conclusion."
